About Marnix van Kampen-Brooks

Having been encouraged by my Dad since I was little, it was inevitable that my love photography and my love of railways would eventually come together, using my Dad’s old Nikon D200, and then soon a secondhand D300S when taking photos whenever we went travelling, on holiday or to heritage galas.

In my last years of school I got my hands on a secondhand D7500 which was a nice jump up from my D300 which was showing its age by this point, and now being a bit older I could get out when I had the time and take photos further from home in London.

I’ve always tried to do more than wide running shots and platform stills, in the age of social media the internet is awash with dozens of photos of every loco and unit on the network. Finding unused angles or adding something else to the frame, particularly plants and flowers, is what I find most enjoyable about the hobby.

I joined the RPS after receiving the RPS Special Award at the second Young Rail Photographer of the Year in 2025.

More of my portfolio can be found on Flickr and Instagram.
