A chance meeting with Tom at Radcliffe on Trent station in the late 1970’s was the start of my friendship with someone who was not only a superb photographer but also a true gentleman. We were at the station to photograph the Summer Saturday trains to Skegness and Great Yarmouth.

We exchanged contact details and Tom mentioned the Rail Camera Club. He lived in the next village to me and we enjoyed days out photographing and visiting locations he knew from the 1960’s , including one day viewing all of his favourite ECML spots between Newark and Peterborough.

We had a memorable day riding on the Scarborough Spa Express behind one of his beloved A4’s 60009. On the day I tried to impress him by naming all of the A4’s but he then responded by correctly naming all of the A3’s !!

I know how much he enjoyed the book signing at Shildon and it was a shame that he decided to step away from the RCC despite my trying to persuade him to stay on.

He will be sadly missed by many and I’m sure that his extensive photo collection will be preserved for future generations to enjoy. RIP Tom
