About Tony Teague
I was born in Brockley, South London, in a house that backed onto the Brighton main line, and then given my first train set when aged just 4, so my railway interests started early! Passenger trains had been electric for many years, but I remember the freights slogging past in the night; later, we moved further out of London but I travelled daily by train to secondary school and soon learned the art of train spotting.
At some point I started taking pictures with my father’s ancient Voigtlander and a primitive Kodak camera made from bakelite, but sadly, all of my earliest pictures were later lost and only a few colour transparencies from the ‘80’s remain. At that time I was an active RCTS member and also travelled on many of the SLOA mainline steam excursions with a very heavy Sony VCR kit; looking back the quality of those recordings was very poor indeed!
Interest in railways and model railways never left me but my photography hobby was re-kindled through visits to preserved lines, particularly the Bluebell Railway, often using my children as an excuse!
Later, photography and steam railway photography in particular became my favoured hobby, and I have taken advantage of numerous charters, mainline running, and when available, lineside passes, to satisfy my passion for steam; the current scene also provides interest through the rapid & continuous changes that are taking place.
